🚨 🚨 🚨 Let me tell you something, being a mom is the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I thoroughly appreciate the lengths my family went to, to keep me from the unnecessary realities of this harsh world as long as possible when I was a child. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As I sit here in Minnie Mouses’ backyard in Disneyland with my 2 year old daughter, I am proud to share my enthusiasm for Disney movies. You couldn’t peel me from my Cinderella VHS tape. And when Brandy’s version came out in 1997, I died and came back to life. I finally saw someone my race playing one of my favorite characters. A fictional character that taught me the great life lesson of courage. Even still, by 1999 I wasn’t wrapped up in race issues because I cried to my mother when they announced the casting call for Annie and she wouldn’t take me to the audition. I didn’t realize for a split second that I wouldn’t be casted. All I knew was that I could sing, was obsessed with musicals, new all the words to the songs, was a little girl and wanted to be Annie. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I say all that to say. The uproar about Ariel, I chucked to ignorant racists and kept it moving but it wouldn’t move from me. I NEED my daughter to know that she too is ROYALTY. Whether Disney came out with Princess Tiana or not, she would always be Princess Olivia. So I created these t-shirts [SWIPE TO SEE] for moms and daughters, even dads (unisex cut) and sons to know that they don’t have to be labeled the “black” anything because these characters are fictional. I seem to be the go-to for finding jumpsuits. This is my stunning auntie who I had the pleasure of styling. She is petite and plus size.
