5 Ways to Rock Your Mom Jeans

Mamas where you at?! Can you believe we’re trending? Yes, mom jeans are a thing. As basic as jeans are, it can be super challenging to find one that fits our ever morphing bodies. It’s no wonder we've gravitated to jeans that give us breathing room. My mom jeans have certainly been reduced to a more snug pair since gaining a few pounds, comforting myself through quarantine with late night snacks and wine. That did not stop me from creating this mini catalog of 5 ways to rock your mom jeans, commemorating the many hats we wear as mothers.

SAHMs

Look #1 is dedicated to my SAHMs aka Stay At Home Moms. Working moms, I bet being home this long by force has opened our eyes to just how much harder it is to be home. There’s always something to do and no where to clock out!

Here’s my SAHM look. Comfort and creativity is key. Rock your mom jeans with a t-shirt or easy top that expresses your personality. I am a shopaholic so this top by Shopaholic was perfect. Check them out here. As The Wardrobe Therapist, I love shopping for my clients. It’s my responsible twist on retail therapy.

For footwear, I vote for something with a rubber sole. Running errands can mean hours on your feet. I’m into fun and funky sneakers or shoes. Mine are no longer available but here is a similar one by Adidas and another fun one by Philippe Model.

Corporate Mom

Corporate mamas, I commend you for powering through those deadlines while spoon feeding your kids with your feet. Haha! Maybe not quite but the balancing act has been insane, especially for those of us who also have to assure that our children are staying on task during their virtual schooling sessions.

You have every right to rock your mom jeans. Keep this look in mind when we’re outside opens up and it’s dress down Friday at the office. Alternatively, your work setting might be more relaxed and you’d like to amp it up with a sprinkle of power and presence. I’ve paired my jeans with a crisp white button down and plaid blazer. I am using items from my closet, so they are no longer available but I’ve found very similar ones from Banana Republic and Talbots (up to size 18).

Sporty Mom

As a mother, personal style tends to fade and show up vicariously in our children. I am urging you to hang on to what makes you tick. Your kids need to see it. Your sense of style and certainty boosts their confidence as well. If you were once sporty and now have no idea how to show it off without disappearing into a baggy abyss of sweats, take a look at this outfit.

My red bomber windbreaker is Proenza Schouler for Target and sold out but I found some on Poshmark and Ebay! Here is a size medium and a 3X. I opted to elevate my sporty look with a chunky heeled sandal. This mama doesn’t do stilettos anymore, (for now at least). Here is a comfy flat alternative in Pink Plum/Brick Red/Lilac Nubuck Leather and a similar sandal to mine by Katy Perry.

Artsy Mom

Artsy moms can be mistaken for cooky moms, but trust me, the world would not be the same without us. We see the world through a lens of infinite possibilities so yes, a striped button down does work with a velvet fuchsia blazer. I tucked my top into my mom jeans and slipped on my canvas sneakers. Just like that, I’m ready to paint the town my color of choice.

Here are 3 gorgeous velvet blazers that I’ve found for you. The first is from Modcloth and it comes in navy or green. The next is by Frame Denim in an “old rose” color that’s perfect for just about any skin tone. Last but not least, Alice + Olivia have one in merlot with a satin lapel (salivate worthy).

As for my blouse, these 3 are similar; Frame, CeCe and Laundry by Shelli Segal. Enjoy.

Super Mom

We are all super moms! I could not possibly fit every type of mother into this article. In efforts to acknowledge us all, this outfit is dedicated to the challenges of motherhood that we overcome to raise the next generation of amazing human beings. If you have a cape-like top like this, adorn yourself with it and stand like the super hero that you are. One with a slit in front or two on the side like a tunic, is perfect to pair with your mom jeans.

Here are 4 layering pieces to choose from. A sheer floral dress from Asos, a lace kimono from Kohl’s, a sheer shawl cardigan (closest to mine) from Storets and this maxi shirt dress by Norma Kamali.
