The New York state plastic bag ban is here! Which means we’re one step closer to saving the planet. Yay! As per The New York Times
“New York residents use 23 billion plastic bags each year.”
Dzaaaamnnn! (in Brooklyn accent). That’s a ridiculous amount of plastic. To be honest, I will miss plastic shopping bags because I used them as garbage bags. On the other hand, I’m looking forward to flaunting my stylish and reusable shopping bags.
Instead of paying for paper bags (fifty cents each), I’ve curated a fabulous selection of 50 stylish and reusable shopping bags that you’ll never forget when it’s time to grab some groceries. I mean, its gonna be a straight up fashion show in the produce aisle.
I’ve broken them up into sections; foldables, double duty, weatherproof, textured and masculine. Plenty of opportunity to show off your personality. After all, you just might find love at the grocery store like Lexi did in Modern Love (FYI my favorite episode of them all).
Foldables
The ban only began a couple of days ago, March 1st, to be exact. As you can imagine, many of us walked into the our local supermarket, obliviously empty handed. Only to be smacked with a bag fee at the register.
In order to avoid forgetting your sac, here’s a collection of foldable shopping bags. They come as small as a wallet and can fit in your satchel. Others can be folded flat and stored in your car. Either way, you’ll always be ready.
Double Duty
If you’re not into carrying multiple bags, get a double duty grocery bag. It’s big enough to carry groceries and nice enough to use as a work bag. Of course that means, carrying as little as possible for the day, forsaking the packing for just-in-case-something-happens habit that most women have. Weatherproof
I don’t know about you, but as nostalgic and environmentally friendly paper bags may be, I’m concerned about the spring rain ahead tearing through them. I’m not about to be running after grapefruit in the middle of traffic. As a germaphobe, I might just take the loss, haha. So I HAD to find some weatherproof options.
