Curlfest 2019 was awesome! There were so many beautifully decorated natural and curly hairstyles. The fashion and flair was all the way up as well. I was super happy to debut my #JustRoyalty t-shirts and their matching crochet interpretation of each Disney Princess.
I created this line of t-shirts in light of the #NotMyAriel campaign. There’s no reason why we should be 1. imposing our adult issues of prejudice on children and 2. fighting to give a fictional character a fixed race. This is utterly stupid. It’s not white or black Ariel. It’s Just Ariel. To show that we can be these princesses as black women and girls without compromising our curls, I created crochet looks and one loc re-twist and style. Take a look!
